I have written my thesis a few weeks ago at Fernuni Hagen about
implementing an opensocial container. You can read it via the shindig

Did you have a look at the java/samples project ?
It contains a reasonably complete implementation of the Shindig Social
SPI using JPA (Both Hibernate and EclipseLink) that will work ontop of
MySQL.
