OK, So I need to revise my problem, and apologies for posting in a thread.
So the problem is this. Kmail version of maildir is not directly compatible
with courier. The problem origionally was my not understanding that a proper
mail dir must contain the 'cur', 'new', and 'tmp' directories. Kmail
