this is not a terrifically useful answer but the kernel in suse 8.0 enterprise is ancient and you'd do yourself a favor to try something more recent. we've had similar problems (hangs before kernel finishes booting, although this sounds like it might actually be post-kernel and into init(8) land) due to a lot of different factors, nearly all of which was fixed by twiddling kernel options or trying a newer kernel that incorporated some accidentally relevant patch. unless you have a current maintenance agreement with suse i doubt that you can even get patches/updates for this release anymore (i may be wrong; i haven't searched exhaustively. but the naive approach of ftp'ing to their updates area and a cursory webpage exam point in that direction). basically i'm suggesting that an upgrade is a more useful time-sink than trying to fix this, though i have no doubt it is possible without that, if you are made of infinite time and willpower. _______________________________________________ Siglinux mailing list Siglinux@utacm.org http://www.utacm.org:81/mailman/listinfo/siglinux
