the opensolaris users group is having its first meeting tonight at 6pm at the sun offices on parmer. a blog entry about the meeting is here:
http://blogs.sun.com/roller/page/sarad?entry=austin_opensolaris_user_group_meeting this is somewhat off topic, but after chatting with simon phipps[1], head of the solaris open source project[2], i feel that there would be things worth hearing here even for linux-uber-alles types. simon will be talking about many things as he is wont to do, and the rest of the talks sound interesting too. if only i didn't have a conflicting dinner party tonight :/ the reason this is at all relevant to linux (as opposed to open source in general) is that simon spoke about both an ubuntu-based and a gentoo-based solaris distro; that is, solaris-kernel-with-linux-everything-else, and this is apparently work already in progress. and note that you do want to RSVP, but if you don't, ask for sara (poster of the above blog) at the door and she'll get you in.
