Since we need good distilled water for brewing EIS/CS, I personally do not see
this as an Off Topic question - if that is what the OT means.
Per suggestions by others on this forum, we recently purchased the Love 3 Water
Distiller with stainless steel exterior (per hubby's request and I am glad
because there was no hot plastic smell during the distillation process)  and
glass receptacle to minimize plastic contamination of the water (for personal
health reasons).  The first Love 3 arrived with a big dent in the boiler
portion.  The box was a double wall but seemed really soft.  We did not plug in
that distiller, but rather called David (the generic guy who seems to run all
the operations that sell the Love Distillers), and he promptly sent a
replacement bottom/boiler.  By the time we actually talked with David we had
already called UPS and reported the damage but UPS said that the shipper would
have to also report it to get reimbursement.  I do not know if David did this
or
not as nobody ever asked for the dented boiler or the box.  We have now had the
distiller about 2 weeks and are learning to use it according to seller
instructions blended with the suggestions gleaned here.  The process is easy,
if
somewhat time consuming.  It takes about 3 1/2 to 4 hours to run a cycle to
obtain about 3+ quarts of water - - -  if you discard the first cup or so (ask
this forum why - chlorine and somethng else is mostly excreted into the first
cup or so if memory serves me for a change).  Also someone on the forum said
not
to fill the water tank to the fill line as the boiling water can splash into
the
distillation system bringing contaminants with it.  I wonder if the "new" guard
over the intake system eliminates this problem......????? Anyone on the forum
-
HELP on this one.   Then it was also advised by forum members to not let it run
entirely dry (which is when it turns itself off automatically) as this also
leads to more contaminants making their way into the water produced by the
distiller.  And do not use the charcoal filter -which means you just remove the
little screen with a knife, pour out the charcoal pieces and attach the empty
charcoal holder to the spout to get a consistently placed drip from the
distiller into your container.  Then the corker is that to get REALLY pure
water, one must achieve a clean distiller boiler tank again and then run the
one
time distilled water back through the whole above process for water that has
near zero conductivity from contaminants.  This is a total of 8 hours of
distillation time plus the time to moniter the production, clean the tank and
change holding containers.  Hubby brought home a plug in timer and I am now
setting it for 1/2 hour to get that first almost cup out into another glass
pitcher I already had, then I reset the timer for 2 1/2 hours to get most of
the
remainder of the water in the tank distilled into the glass container.  The
good
news is - IT WORKS.  When I consider the larger distillers, I do not see how
you
could get them consistently clean enough to make the high quality water that
makes such a difference in brewing silver water.  Now we know what Ode
says about being able to  tell by the taste when you have made a really good
silver brew.  WOW - there is a really good tasting difference.  We just hope we
can get to the point where we achieve this fantastic brew more often.  We are
running two rigs - one is a Silver Puppy with predetermined auto turn off and
the other is a home made rig with #4 - 9 volt batteries.  We have gotten that
fine taste a couple of times out of the home made rig, but have already gotten
the finer than fine "CS" brew out of the puppy several times in the week or so
we have had it.  We are still new to EIS/CS and because of all the bits and
pieces of info that the experienced brewers share here, we are chugging along
and happy while we go.  We hope you will be also.  Sorry to take so many words
-
it just felt OK to give you all that my little brain cells have acquired.  And
now I hope other forum members will further educate and correct me on any
issues
of error or having room for improvement.

Questions we have for the forum..... About cleaning the boiler chamber of the
distiller. ... How do various ones on this forum clean theirs and what do you
use?  How do you rinse (once, twice, thrice etc &  just swish or wipe with
cloth
while rinsing???and with tap, then distilled or what?  Do you somehow clean the
stainless steel underside of the fan portion of the Love distiller?  Any
other hints or tricks?

Thanks and blessings from Paula in Palacios

Hi,
I remember someone on the list talking about how much they liked there Love
water distiller.  I went to research them for purchase and found there are
several different models with widely varying prices.  If you have used a Love
distiller would you share your experience?

Thanks.
