Saran wrap works well.
The metal will eventually rust unless the air was removed by the canning
process.

Yes, glass is preferable. I have been using the Perrier sparkling water
glass bottles .. but have a few swing top glass bottles that are good.
Found them at Home Goods. also there is an online line place called
www.specalitybottle.com that has all kinds of glass bottles.

Yes,
I prefer glass for storage, but have used plastic jug with plastic caps. I
bought a 1 gallon glass jug with a plastic cap at a flea market for $ 6.75.
Cleaned it thoroughly and use it. You can also get new plastic jugs at Walmart
for $.99. Saran Wrap under the regular lid probably be fine.
