Mike has been very very generous in dealing with off topic posts. I
enjoy them in general, but when they erode the credibility of the list
in general, I object. Those who have just experienced just that very
thing by the inflammatory articles that Kurt posts, are giving us all a
very timely wake up call. In my humble opinion, these are very
different from many general off topic posts I have read, and I usually
do not read them. From the list rules, on the website:
"Off Topic Posts
Posts that are clearly Off Topic are generally discouraged. Do not
start an obviously off topic thread. Do not reply to off topic posts
made by others. If a thread morphs off-topic, end it or take it off
list! There should not be lengthy threads on obviously off-topic
subjects. I've provided the Off Topic List for such subjects.
This does not apply to threads that result from someone's health
related questions as described in the Permitted Topics section above,
which may continue until basic information is given and important
resources identified.
If you are in doubt or have a special need you believe justifies an off
topic post, please ask me in private e-mail: mdev...@eskimo.com"

Hey thanks, Wayne.
I don't understand the problem with the information, if you don't
like it, delete it! There are some people that want to know what's
going on.
I fully accept that - that's why there is a list specifically set up
for stuff like this - the Off Topic list. I don't understand why you
don't post it there, why you insist on posting it here instead so we
all have to get it even when we're not the least bit interested.
I think this list has been really fantastic. I have learnt so much
about CS. I'm really grateful for it. I just find it so sad that I'm
now looking to see if there's any other list dealing with CS that I
can refer people to. I'm in the UK and I know how most people in the
UK view posts like yours. They're putting people off CS altogether and
because of them peope are feeling this list has no credibility. why
can't you just post them in the proper place?
