I don't know about grape seeds for arthritis, but I'll contribute this snippet for the discussion.

From an old American book, "Vitalogy", came the account of an army, presumably during the US Civil War. The medics noted that the officers became run down and debilitated, whereas the men did well.

They observed them and noticed that the officers spat out the grape seeds when they ate them, but the men consumed skin, seeds and all.

So from that one would conclude that eating the seeds is at least beneficial in some ways, and so I do that whenever I remember or can bear the taste, and I don't buy 'seedless' grapes, as I understand chemicals are applied to the fruit to stop the seeds forming.

I had a look on Gutenberg to see if the old book had been stored there, but can't see it. However, I am amazed to find that it is in paperback etc. in various places on eBay and the internet. I think the original, by E H Ruddock, appeared in 1899, but I see there was an edition in 1929. Our copy, long gone, came from Canada and was old in 1953.

Jane, (Australia), I see there is a copy (1920s) on eBay in Greensborough, Vic, if that is of interest to you. With postage at $35 I'm not sure I'm going after it. I notice from the cover of that one that it is attributed to Profs. Wood and Ruddock.

Oh, and from Lane Cove, $21.80 will get you a brand new one for $21.80! Think I'll get one. There are 5 available.

Oh, I see they have only selected some of the book to reproduce: Vitalogy, first published in 1899 and expanded and updated in 1930, was the most popular and influential home health encyclopedia of its day. In the 1990s it inspired a major album by the rock band Pearl Jam. We have selected and reproduced four chapters from the 1930 edition.

, Well, they don't say which chapters, but I still may get it. "Booktopia Books"
OK, I ordered that.

There's another original available for $46 plus $14 postage from Croydon Park SA (dustylucy27) And dang, it looks as if it would have been cheaper to get the new version straight from the US but oh dear, never mind, I'm happy. There's another one in Aus up for bidding but I don't bother with auctions.
