Hello.
Once upon a time I wanted to write an operating system for the PDP-11 ;)
One of the problems I found was precisely that. I wrote this blog entry about
how didn’t I tackle the problem

I use ZOC for windows and MacOS. As a plus, it also includes 3270 emulation,
which comes handy if you are also an Hercules user.

Nowadays, the easiest way to distribute binaries is to use containers. I made
some containerised simh images (I’ve not upgraded them for a while though).

Mark,
I’ve got two QBUS interface cards installed in my VAX 4000-200 and uVAX 3300
systems. I think I’ve got no docs though. Would that be of any help (ie,
testing stuff on real hardware)?

Bryan, the lines I wrote in my previous mail are not part of an EXPECT script,
but SIMH commands which are intended to be put in the simulator ini file. Those
specific lines work with RSTS 11, if you are going to run a different version
you should modify them accordingly.

Hello,
Please excuse my top-posting. I’m writing this on a phone :)
If what you want to achieve is to login into your VAX from the host system, you
don’t need to fiddle with a real terminal (although that can be fun in itself
;)). You should check the alternative network attachments that SIMH

Add geometry and depth parameters as needed. You must also enable the XDCMP

bit of luck you will get

Hello,
Is anyone aware of this?

Just checked it, compiled it under OSX (with a minor modification to the
makefile) and it works (well, sort of… the keyboard emulation is not very good).

Hello,
Perhaps someone could find an use for something I’ve built lately. I have made
several Docker images for SIMH ands some freely available operating systems for
the VAX and the PDP-11 (basically, BSD and UNIX). The docker images can be
pulled from the docker hub, with the following names:
Hello,
I’m playing around with NetBSD in the 3900 simulator and I’ve got my boot disk
image full. I have created a bigger one, transferred all the stuff to it (using
tar | tar), but I can’t make it bootable.
I’ve tried what seems to be the way to do it:
# installboot /dev/rra2a

I want to thank you for all the replies. A little summary (so far):
- Using the assembler included in 2.11BSD: can't be done. That assembler
is written in assembler, and I've not been able to find any other one
written in C.
- macro11 included in simh: it works, and it generates object
and all the
low-level stuff. Is there any low-level SIMH docs I could read? I don't have a
lot of free time, but I enjoy this stuff much more than the stupid IT
management work I do for a living ;)
