My problem was that although I had read the instructions, I forgot them
when I came to try things out. Must be old age creeping on!

Thanks Mark. I will try what you have suggested. I was a bit surprised that
SDL 1.2 worked at all, but since it is a recognised part of CentOS 6 and
SDL2 is not, it seemed worth trying it.

Actually, the recent release was for QDSS graphics. The QVSS has been
available for almost 6 years!
