Hi all,
So far I've got Multics, V7 and BSD4 running on SIMH in Google Cloud
Platform (GCP). I'm packaging some of these up into more turnkey images and
scripts so that more people can easily play with these Grand Olde Operating
Systemes.
My end goal is a script that can be run on your local
manuals for
PDP-11, VAX and DPS8/Multics)

FANTASTIC!
That's exactly the thing I needed. The rest has been ugly shell coding and
weird old-school UNIX tricks (my first UNIX was PWB!).
Here's an example:
To configure (edit source code) and compile df.c to know about the rk disks
you would normally do this:
# chdir /usr/source/s1
# ed
I saw your note - I also need a Modula-2 compiler. I'm looking for the
Zurich one for UNIX/VAX. Is that the one you may have?

Thanks to everyone for all the amazing knowledge flying around on this list.
I am in the process of recreating my "OS journey" from V6 UNIX to Linux,
using SIMH. I'm also trying to package things up so that (almost) anyone
can run "the classics" in the cloud for little to nothing.
While this is
I'm trying to get a V7 system running multi-user to allow telnet in on port
.
I have this happily working on V6 UNIX, but I keep hitting some snags on
building a working v7 kernel. I'm getting a lot of kernel crashes.
I'm going to start over from scratch, again, but I would appreciate a
Recent mention of the SDS 940 and XDS reminded me of a system that I only
used for a year or so, but which was pretty fascinating to me: CP-V and
the Honeywell follow-on CP-6.
Does anyone else remember these, or have ideas on where I might look for OS
media for them?
I *think* that the CP-V was
SIMH wizards,
Thanks to your help, I've finished automating the V6/PDP-11 and
4.0BSD/Vax780 in GCP installations.

Anyone with a Google Cloud Platform (GCP) account can now play with these

You can find build kits to run various UNIX flavors in GCP in my github
repositories.
I was working in a 4.2BSD build kit but didn't finish it., IIRC
https://github.com/tomperrine/unix-42bsd-vax-simh-gcp
There's also 4.0 BSD, V6 and V7

The callsign N1BE is not listed as a "silent key" in any archive I can find
and QRZ shows an email of that callsign @ arrl.net. The last update to the
QRZ page for that person was 2015, but that could just mean that they
haven't updated their profile there. The FCC license was renewed in 2016...
I have a tar tape which purports to load the PWB software onto a v6 UNIX
system, which I've not had time to try, yet.
I used PWB at my first real job, so I'm eager to try it. If you can point
me at where you think I might be able to find a complete PWB system
(image?), I'd appreciate it. I
Way back in the mid/late 80s we had a machine from ATT/Teradata which was a
DB appliance. It was a standalone rack about the size of an RA81, IIRC.
It claimed to have "single board PDP-11, a PDP-11/84" as the CPU.
I had never heard of it before or since. Was that a typo? Hype? Flat out
wrong?
