Yes, current cycle is 14.2
nodejs 10 is only supporting openssl 1.1.1, so it's not possible to
build it for 14.2 unless it's patched, but upstream is not willing to do
it due to the reason they stated in the issue tracker i mentioned before.

Hence, 14.2 will only see nodejs 8 unless OpenSSL 1.1.1 is introduced in
14.2, which is unlikely, since it's EOL'ed by the end of 2019 according
to https://www.openssl.org/policies/releasestrat.html. Only by end of
2019 we might have a chance to see whether openssl 1.1.x will be brought
back to 14.2 or not.

Hi willy,

By current cycle do you mean Slackware 14.2.
If that is the case, then I would be testing node 10 under Slackware -
current.
I only need to check whether openssl greater than 1.0.2 is available

It turns out node 10 removed Open SSL 1.0.2 support
(https://github.com/nodejs/node/issues/22025), so node 10 will only be
available for next Slackware release and not in current cycle.

So in the meantime, we will stick with nodejs 8 as our latest release in
SBo repository.

[Slackbuilds-users] Feedback needed: nodejs changes

2018-12-28 Thread Willy Sudiarto Raharjo
Hi all,

Nodejs6 has entered maintenance release since April 2018 and it will be
EOL'ed in April 2019. Since nothing is depending on this package, i plan
to remove this package in 2019 if no one objected. I will push the
latest stable update in today's public update.

Current nodejs will be upgraded to nodejs v10 as the latest LTS release
and it will be considered an active release until April 2020 and EOL'ed
in April 2021

A new nodejs8 will be submitted if needed just in case there are some
packages that still incompatible with the latest nodejs v10. I will push
it after today's public update and give some time for users to migrate
and test their applications.

Any suggestions?
