While I'm happy to create web pages in a text editor, my 7 year
old daughter has expressed an interest in creating some web pages
so I'm looking for a nice simple tool (on Linux of course).
There seem to be a number of them like Amaya and Bluefish. Does
anybody have any direct experience
I will go for Aptana.
Or she can start with Kompozer which is based from nvu

There are also several platform-neutral CMS systems which will give her
a much greater payoff from the effort involved than creating individual
pages. I don't know if I would let a seven-year-old loose with Joomla,
but if you turned off all the options and kept it as simple as possible...

check your network card is turned on or activated. Sometimes on install
it is disabled. Make it enabled.
Get the settings that you should have from Telstra of anything that you
have to configure on your computer.
Usually it will be DHCP from the modem and you should not have to worry.

What exactly do you mean? To access the net an OS has to recognise the
equipment you use. Are you on a machine using an ethernet card or a
wireless card or are you using a USB stick modem? Does the OS recognise
them?
