Though for the sake of completeness it would be good to find out what
this is/was.
Can you characterise the outage in more detail?
Does the ppp peer remain pingable?
(ie is the problem upstream of the modem link)
If not do you see activity on the modem txd led when you try to ping?
(ie is the problem in your box or modem)
