I ran SmartOS on X4140 for a while, just could not use KVM. I’ve dumped
them last year but they worked for my use case.

I tried it once a year ago and at that time it failed as far as I can remember.
I dumped all my X4140’s and replaced them by HP servers for that reason.
(although that wasn’t bad since the X4140 consumes a lot of energy)
