I think you missed the point of the LSF. It's not the tasks. It's
about growing the sport. The reason you need witnesses, and witnesses
with LSF levels for the higher level tasks is to encourage you to get
more people involved in soaring and the LSF.

With Gordy, Dr. Dan, JoJo and myself, it wouldn't be a very quiet team
would it? 8-)

Hey Jim, any truth to the rumor you will team with Gordy and Dr Dan at the
next F3J team selection? Maybe they will want to team up at the Nats for a

Yes our lines were
short. This was not a "Joe" thing as the TM determined the line length. One
thing I can guarantee and I mean absolute guarantee is that nobody and I mean
nobody prestretches a line like Joe. I think he weighs about 160lbs and I dare

I've towed for Joe for a team select final, I've towed for Larry Jolly at
Nats, and for you multiple times. Joe or Larry will take your pulley down
to the spike and you will never get it back up if you are not ready for
them, Jimbo is almost as strong. By far the three strongest tensioners I
I volunteer to be the timer for all three! I have an almostperfect record with JW a year ago at the NATS. The 60 foot pop-off caught me by surprise.

I just found this video on JoJo's web site.

Humourous moment in the F3J worlds early rounds, I'm timing Tom K.
Joe is calling for Tom K and throwing Tom's Supra. Joe complains that the
fuselage is too skinny but pretensions as normal. The US F3J team uses the
5-4-3-2- KICK - Go signal to get the towers started.
Tom has not figured out
For those who still need to and want to qualify for the 2004 F3B Team Selections in Oct at the AMA site in Muncie your last chance is in Chicago, Labor Day Week End.
You can obtain forms from Lisa Johnson at AMA, 765-287-1256, ext 231. The formsare required to qualify.
If you were qualified
Simple.
do what I do, go to walmart's photo section and find the 3m photo
laminating sheets, about 3 1/2" sq. One side is hard clear mylar, and the other
is a thinner mylar, also clear but sticky on one side. I put a piece
upside down where the arm is to keep it from getting stuck, then
Did you know that on the second last fly-off round Arend's line was
less than 1 foot short?
I believe that that line was the shortest of all that were measured. Also,
the Canadian lines were the ones most frequently measured... we figured we
had to pick on them :)

I have been doing the same thing for about a year now. Location (Latitude
and Longitude) and altitude data was obtained by mounting a handy GPS
(Garmin e-Trex Vista) in my plane. Acquired data was processed using
Kashmir3D software. Its available as a free ware at
As I think about this a little longer, I don't even know
if I am good enough to complete all the tasks to achieve LSF level V, but I
will try.Date: Wed, 25 Aug 2004 11:31:29 -0500To:

I agree about the launch height advantage or lack thereof, kinda adds
creedence to Jo Jo's drive to employ shorter lines.
Mr. Grini tried to make a statement during the opening manager's
meeting. Essentialy two things:
1) Although the CIAM committee solicits opinions during these events,
I am using the Futaba 3150 digi's for flaps in my Trinity F3F, so I
think they are a great match :-)
I have some pictures I'll send you direct. I think you can get new
cases for your Volz stuff from Mr. Gordy.
That new Acacia 4 looks pretty neat.

The September 2004 issue of RC Soaring Digest is now available for
downloading. This issue is 22 pages in length and is filled with
photos. As a result, the PDF is 2662K in size. This is a bit larger
than usual, but still reasonable for those with dial-up accounts. Go
