I don't see how. If they're the power lines I'm thinking of (to your

voltage lines.this one was by far the most spectacular.

1. The power lines in question are on the west side of the road which runs
along the west side of the field; the winds were from the east, so we were
launching and landing west to east.
2. We did notify Austin Energy about the incident, and they sent
someone out to inspect. They said that

It is entirely possible that the energy generated (EMI/RFI - from DC up into
the GHz) by such an event could adversly affect RX's OR the TX's.
The more likely reason the RX's have been compromised has more to do with
circuitry that is already powered up. The additional energy may exceed the

Naturally, any Rx that was OFF at the time would not have been damaged.
The concern is about the Rx's that were ON at the time. Frankly, I'm quite
skeptical at the moment. I'm waiting

As previously mentioned, damage to devices that are not initially powered up
should be fine. However the path of the extraneous noise (from the event) does
not emanate equally, therefore a device which was near another which was
adverely affected may also be fine. It is a hit-and-miss affair.
The receivers that would not work after the incident were not powered up
when the incident occurred. Those people who were flying at the time have
reported no radio problems.

My Ava encountered the power lines to the west side of our field on Sunday,
