Title: RX request upgrade
I need FM receivers. Thanks. gv
I agree with Don on the Airtronics 92777 or the 92778 blue cubes but don't
ignore the JR 700 or the JR 770s slimline RX's. I use a mix of both and they
all are flawless. Get them from Johnny Berlin.
Regards, Dave Corven.

Already tried it...been working fine for almost two years. I will try
the expanded test you describe below with the new ships I'm building.

Thanks Bill,
Sorry I didn't mention that. I've actually flew the plane and did some extensive range checks before. Not a proximity effect in this case and range was fine.
I've since removed the rx in preparation to send it in to FMA. I also was able to swap crystals (same channel though) wit

Sometimes nearby noise sources (flourescent lighting, electric fans,
appliances, etc) generate enough EMI/RFI to cause this. RX swamping (AGC can
not compensate enough) by a TX that is too close can also do this (it may show

Reading the interesting threads on antennas. As the main aim is to
keep things clean and light but still have enough range you might
consider Base-loading the receiver antenna.
Suggested approach:
Take the receiver antenna and coil the first 50% (closest to the
receiver) around a pencil or dow

I just spoke with a friend who is FCC licensed to work
on microwave transmitters. After he explained how the
circuitry to drive the crystals works, and how to pulse
them to work at resonant frequencies and all that, he
said it boils down to this:
Put the crystal in. Range check it. If it works

crystals seem to work fine in Futaba receivers, despite what Futaba says.
It would be interesting to know exactly who is mfg these things.

Daniel Dual conversion crystals are not compatibles with
single conversion receivers. Single conversion crystal are
not compatibles with Dual conversion receivers. Run a range
test after a crystal change even if it is the right crystal it
may be out of tolerance and reduce your range.

I just damaged my Feather reciever (never mind how - damn hangar rash).
I'd like to replace it with a 555.
Can I put the crystal from the Feather into the 555? The Feather is
single-conversion while the 555 is double. The Hitec website lists
different part numbers for replacement crystals. I
I had six of one brand that failed below 30'F. I expected to fly down to
0'F and found this very upsetting. My radios of the past did not do this.
Worse still you would not be aware of this because coming from the house or
car they would retain some heat and then slowly die as their temperature
