Apriso said that the manufacturer and designer of aerospace structures is using the firm's software to improve its manufacturing operations. Financial impact of the win was not disclosed. Apriso developers manufacturing software, used by such customers as GM, Volvo, Lockheed Martin, Honeywell, and many others. Valeant Pharmaceuticals Buys Obagi Medical For $360M ---- Long Beach-based Obagi Medical Products, the developer of aesthetic medicine products, is being acquired by Valeant Pharmaceuticals, in a deal worth approximately $360M, Obagi said this morning. Obagi said that Valeant has agreed to acquire all of its outstanding common stock for $19.75 per share in cash, a 42 percent premium to Obagi's closing share price on Thursday, March 14th. The firms said the deal is expected to be complete in the second quarter of 2013. Bluebeam Adds Offline Mode With New Release ---- Bluebeam Software, the developer of PDF-based software for the architecture, engineering, and construction industry, said Tuesday that it has launched a new version of its software, adding a new "offline mode" which synchronizes changes made to documents even when they're edited offline. The firm's software--used for large, multi-page, highly interlinked things like blueprints--now lets users edit files on a desktop, tablet PC, or iPad, and later synchronize those changes back into a project. Bluebeam, which is headed by Richard Lee, has carved out a niche providing its software to the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) and oil and gas industries, by providing PDF-based document editing for intricate, multi-page engineering documents. Semtech Sells Off Product Line To Canadian Firm ---- Camarillo-based Semtech, which is a supplier of both analog and mixed signal semiconductors, said that it has sold off one of its product lines to a Canadian firm. Semtech said Tuesday afternoon that it has sold its video optical module (optical SFP) product line to Embrionix, a supplier of SFPs to the broadcast video market. Financial details of the sale were not disclosed. Semtech said the move is part of an effort by the firm to divest the "non-core" portfion o fits video business; the company said it will continue to deliver next generation semiconductor products for the broadcast video and high-definition surveillance industries. Hulu Redesigns Apple TV UI ---- Los Angeles-based video streaming site Hulu released a new, redesigned user interface to the Hulu Plus service on Apple TV Tuesday, saying that it has redesigned the app "from the ground up." Among the updates to the service, Hulu said it split the content categories across the top navigation bar, let users store their favorite shows in a "Show You Watch" tray, and also added ability to easily view captions and subtitles. Nomadix Settles With AT&T ---- Agoura Hills-based wireless gateway developer Nomadix reported Tuesday that it has reached a settlement with Wayport, Inc., Superclick, Inc., and Superclick Networks, Inc., affiliates of AT&T Corp., over a patent infringement case. According to Nomadix, the settlement includes a license to AT&T, under Nomadix patents relating to Internet access technologies. Financial details of the settlement were not disclosed. Nomadix had sued Wayport, HP, BAHN Corporation, Guest-Tek Interactive Entertainment Ltd., Guest-Tek Interactive Entertainment, Inc., LodgeNet Interactive Corporation, LodgeNet StayOnline, Inc., On Command Corporation, Aruba Networks, Inc., Superclick, Inc. and Superclick Networks, Inc. over its patents back in 2009. HP also settled a suit with Nomadix back in November. The firm said it is planning to accept outside applications later this year for its accelerator. The new accelerator is headed by Lin Miao, formerly one of the founders of a somewhat controversial startup, Tatto Media. According to Be Great Partners, it is planning to work with LA mayoral candidate Eric Garcetti on efforts to bolster the city's economic and tech infrastructure. Be Great Partners did not say how far along its investment fund is, or when it plans to start making investments out of that fund.
