TakeLessons Launches Scholarship Program
----
San Diego-based TakeLessona, the online marketplace for finding
tutors, music teachers, language lessons, and more, has launched a new
scholarship program specifically aimed at college and university
students. According to TakeLessons, it will offer up scholarships to
three students, worth $1,000, $2,000, and $5,000, driven by online,

Rant Media Network Raises $4M
----
Irvine-based Rant Media Network, an online media publisher which
publishes a sports, men's, and fashion publications under the Rant
name, has raised $4M in a funding round. The company said the funding
was led by Barry Honig, Craig Dubow (Gannett), and Southpaw Asset
Management, as well as Hudson Bay Capital and Roth Capital. The
company said the new funding brings its total raised to $7.3M. Rant
Media Network is led by Brett Rosin.

Central Desktop Launches Collaboration Ranking Tool For Companies
----
Pasadena-based cloud-based project management and collaboration
software developer Central Desktop has launched a new tool to help
companies figure out how well they are collaborating, compared to
other users in Central Desktop's system. According to Central Desktop,
its new Collaboration Index is an automated scoring system, which
calculates users in relation to others in the system on their
collaboration. The company said it measures audience, listening,
socialization, and how users facilitate others to create its
"C-Index", which can help companies make better decisions and help
discover users in their company with influence.

Ixia Files Annual Report, Restatements
----
Calabasas-based network testing software and hardware developer Ixia
this morning reported its financial reports for the fourth quarter and
fiscal year ended December 31, 2013, its quarterly 10-Q for the
quarter ended September 30, 2013, as well as a batch of other
amendments to its quarterly reports--which the company says is
"substantial progress" to becoming current with the Securities and
Exchange Commission. Ixia has been digging itself out of a hole, all
related to the surprise resignation of its former CEO back in October
of 2013 due to a fabricated resume. That triggered a massive round of
audits and delays to the company's earnings reports, and has had the
company fending off a delisting on the NASDAQ.

AmplifyLA's Bricault Get Exit At SnappyTV
----
Paul Bricault of the AmplifyLA startup accelerator in Venice, has
scored an exit with one of his companies. Twitter said Thursday that
it has acquired SnappyTV, a San Francisco developer of software which
helps people capture live event video, edit that video, and post it
directly to Twitter. Financial details of the acquisition were not
announced. Bricault was one of a number of angel investors and
advisors at SnappyTV, including Josh Felser, Chris Redlitz, Dan
Halabe, Brian Woods, Russ Fradin, David Pidwell, Leslie Gittess, Andy
Boszhardt, Ben Lin, Don Ryan, Don Folgner and Tricia Iboshi. Bricault
has been an advisor to SnappyTV since 2010.

Kite Pharma Surges In IPO
----
Los Angeles-based Kite Pharma, a biopharmaceuticals firm developing
treatments for cancer, surged in its IPO Friday morning on the NASDAQ
Global Market, trading as high as $29.22 in morning trading.
