Ltd.) said on Wednesday that they are teaming up to build a 12,800 km, transpacific submarine cable system. According to the companies, the low latency route will connect Hong Kong and Los Angeles, with ultra-high capacity transmissions speeds, the very first direct between LA and Hong Kong. The companies did not say how much they will invest in the new ultra high-speed link, which is expected to provider 120 terabits/second capacity between the US and Asia. Google said that the new link will be used to bring lower latency, more security, and greater bandwidth to Google users in the APAC region. http://www.socaltech.com/facebook_google_connect_la_hong_kong_via_undersea_ultra_high_speed_cable/s-0067590.html Esri, Waze Partner On Traffic Data ---- Redlands-based mapping software developer Esri, and traffic and navigation app developer Waze--which is owned by Google--said on Wednesday that they are in a new partnership to allow government municipalities to access Waze's traffic data. The two said the partnership will allow governments using Esri's ArcGIS platform to access free, traffic information through the Waze Connected Citizens Program. The two-way system also lets governments share road closure alerts and other information through the Waze app, and incorporate its data into enterprise systems, such as emergency dispatch and street maintenance systems. Financial details of the partnership between Esri and Waze were not announced. Waze says that more than 65 million users are using its apps. Social Reality Moves To NASDAQ ---- Los Angeles-based Internet advertising firm Social Reality, which develops software for automating real time bidding (RTB) advertising, is moving to the NASDAQ Capital Market this morning. Social Reality said its Class A common stock will begin trading as SRAX. Social Reality had previously been listed over the counter. Social Reality is led by Christopher Miglino. According to the company, its real time bidding management platform is aimed at brands and publishers, and lets brands launch, distribute, track and optimize social and digital media and consumer engagement campaigns. Yardi In Major UK Expansion, Hires Team Wholesale ---- Santa Barbara-based property management software developer Yardi is in a major expansion in the United Kingdom, saying late Wednesday evening that it has named four executives at Yardi Systems Limited. The company said it has named Martin Betts as Regional Director, to lead its sales operations across the UK, and also appointed Karen Stevenson, Mike Hobbs, and Mike Cook in a variety of regional sales positions. Betts was previously at Qube Global Software, and also served at MRI Software and Fraser Williams. The other three all worked with Betts at Qube. Snapchat Selects Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs To Lead IPO, Says Report ---- Venice-based Snapchat has selected two investments banks--Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs--to lead the company's much anticipated IPO, according to a report from Reuters Wednesday afternoon. The report--citing "a source familiar with the situation"--said the IPO would value Snapchat at $25 billion. The report said that JPMorgan Chas & Co., Deutsche Bank, Allen & Co, Barclays, and Credit Suisse will also be involved in the IPO effort. Snapchat--which recently renamed itself Snap, Inc.--has been looking for an investment bank to lead the IPO for a number of months. http://www.socaltech.com/snapchat_selects_morgan_stanley_goldman_sachs_to_lead_ipo_says_report/s-0067586.html Report: NastyGal Facing Cram Down Round, Seeking Buyer ---- Los Angeles-based fashion website NastyGal is apparently in the midst of a "cram down" round--a round where the current shareholders in a company essentially reset the equity structure of a company that usually forces non-participating investors to lose most, if not all of their stake in the company. The report today, from PandoDaily, follows an earlier report from the fashion industry which said that NastyGal was seeking a buyer for the company. NastyGal--founded by Sophia Amorusa--had been facing some major headwinds over the last few years, which had resulted in Amorusa resigning as CEO and layoffs at the company. On the upside, the new funding round--even with its "cram down" provisions--would provide the company with much needed financing, as much as $40M, according to the report. http://www.socaltech.com/report_nastygal_facing_cram_down_round_seeking_buyer/s-0067581.html Resonant Finds New CFO ---- Goleta-based radio frequency filter developer Resonant said on Wednesday that it has appointed a new Chief Financial Officer, replacing current Interim CFO Ross Goolsby. According to Resonant, it has hired on Jeff Killian, a longtime veteran of the semiconductor industry, to the CFO position. Killian was previously CFO of Cascade Microtech, where he had been CFO since 2010, up until its recent sale this year to FormFactor. Killian also previously served at TriQuint Semiconductor and US Bank. Resonant says Killian has almost 30 years of experience in the industry. March Capital Re-Ups On E8 Security ---- Santa Monica-based venture investor March Capital Partners has re-upped on one of its portfolio companies, Redwood City-based E8 Security, which develops software used to analyze cybersecurity threats. E8 Security said on Tuesday that it has raised $12M in Series B funding, led by Strategic Cyber Ventures, and also including prior investors March Capital Partners, Allegis Capital, and The Hive. E8 Security has now raised $21.8M in funding.
