It's possible, but I'm not sure. I'm not familiar with that specific option myself. If you're doing a custom build, you could put export EXTRA_DEVICES=mptable in pfsense-build.conf and that should pass the device through to the kernel config during the build process. I'll ask around the other devs and see if people think it's safe to add that. Re: [Soekris] net6501 and pfsense 2.x performance?
Thanks Bryan, but ... errr - I was hoping to find out if PF ran like a dog on it **before** I splashed the cash to get one in!!! Matheus - I have got up to 480Mb/s on a Supermicro Atom based server (SYS-5015A-EHF-D525) with Intel NICs using standard FreeBSD igb driver in PF 2.1. Most tests show an average of 320Mb/s. So I was a bit disappointed with that - but now you've told me you're not even getting 150Mbs - perhaps I'm just being plain greedy!?!? I'm not cooking the CPU, this is the Atom D525 dual core atom with hyperthreads and yes I see 4 X CPUs in PF. So I guess this is just the infamous PFSense issue with Intel NIC drivers..? Or just FreeBSD itself.? So I was a bit disappointed with that - but now you've told me you're not even getting 150Mbs - perhaps I'm just being plain greedy!?!? Jeff, I did some testing on my 6501. I first tried it to be a NAS, and got to compare the same eSATA PCIe card there and in an intel 525 atom board. What I was to blame the CPU, on a second thought, I saw it was much easier to be caused by all bus bottleneck on the board design. It was just not meant to be used that way. The throughput on the mini itx atom was more than 4x what the soekris got me. so, as you say this about the atom board, it doesn't come to me as a surprise. but as I said, would be much secure for me to do the test again, and send the screen. I don't know if I have pure FreeBSD for the test, so the test could be more thorough. I'm not cooking the CPU, this is the Atom D525 dual core atom with hyperthreads and yes I see 4 X CPUs in PF. So I guess this is just the infamous PFSense issue with Intel NIC drivers..?
