Formal government session held in Voljavca monastery

Kragujevac, Aug 28, 2005 – Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica and
government members held a formal government session in Voljavca monastery,
dedicated to the Serbian government’s 200th anniversary. Kostunica said that
the Serbian government is facing a problem of creating a state, even 200
years after its founding.

Addressing the people gathered in front of the monastery, where on today’s
date, the first Serbian government’s session took place, Kostunica said that
the ancestors’ messages can be applied even nowadays, and pointed out that
for a nation to have a future, it must have a well-structured state.

Following the formal session, which was closed for the public and attended
by most of the ministers, Kostunica pointed out that without a country and
the country’s clearly defined borders, there is also no economy. He added
that a country cannot be of any kind and that an individual’s or a group’s
will must not be above the law, and that the law must be above them.

Talking about Serbia’s international position, Kostunica said that Serbia
must even today, just as 200 years ago, fight for its status but without
losing its identity.

In today’s circumstances, which are similar to those back in 1805, a
consensus is necessary for accomplishing Serbia-Montenegro’s main goals, or
as stated in the early days “discipline and harmony,” said the Prime Minister.

Serbian Orthodox Church Patriarch Pavle served this morning the archpriest
liturgy in Voljavca monastery, and a memorial service to Karadjorje’s
warriors was held by the Bishop of Sumadija Jovan.

A theatrical performance “Head on shoulders” was presented as part of the
celebration of the founding of the first Serbian government
Praviteljsstvujusci Sovjet Srpski. Actors from the Kragujevac theatre
“Joakim Vujic” performed dramatic texts about the first Serbian government.
