Bishop Artemije before the Heritage Foundation

Bishop of the Diocese of Ras-Prizren, Mr. Artemije, the leader of the
delegation which arrived to Washington several days ago, upon being invited
by the Heritage Foundation, has given his testimony before more than fifty
representatives of non-government organizations and members of both the
American Congress and Senate.
Bishop Artemije was introduced by William Murray, who himself had visited
Kosovo and Metohija after the pogrom of March 17, 2004, and had personally
got acquainted with the level of sufferings of Serbian people and the
damages of Christian sanctities.

“Ladies and gentlemen,

as an arch shepherd of the Christians in Kosovo and Metohija, I have come to
America again to testify of the sufferings of the Christians in Kosovo and
to present what awaits us along this road.

I have also come to ask you to help us change the direction of American
politics which will, should it stay the way it is, condemn my people to
extinction and create yet another state of evil – and this time in the very
center of Europe.

As you certainly remember, since the war ended in 1999. Kosovo and Metohija
have been under the protectorate of United Nations and NATO. Here, in
America, it seems that everyone presumes that the whole operation ended
successfully, and everybody has completely forgotten about Kosovo.

However, before the eyes of United Nations and NATO, Kosmet has become the
black hole of corruption and organized crime, including drugs, guns and
people trafficking. Local Muslim Albanian administration is controlled by
the terrorist organization, so called Liberation Army of Kosovo which is
closely tied to the Muslim Albanian mafia which controls drugs and people
trafficking all over Europe.

Since 1999, AFTER the end of the war – 220.000 Serbs and non-Albanians have
forcefully left Kosovo and Metohija; more than 1.000 Serbs were killed and
more than 150 churches and monasteries, many of which were medieval, were
destroyed.

With every new day Kosovo loses the physiognomy of a Christian country with
numerous churches and monasteries, and more and more it resembles a Muslim
country filled with mosques. This transformation is a direct result of the
violence and the threat of violence. In the meantime, hundreds of mosques
have been built and are still being built, mostly funded by Saudi Arabia and
the countries of the Persian Gulf.

And now, conducting the politics directly inherited from the previous
administration, some American government officials demand very strongly that
my country, Serbia, gives a part of its territory to this extremist Islamic
movement. Separation of Kosovo and Metohija, an integral part of the
democratic Serbia, from its home country, would mean the condemnation of my
people to extinction in that part of the country and creation of one country
of evil, the government of which would be under the control of the terrorists.

I cannot understand why the official representatives of America want that.
Perhaps they think it would leave the good impression on Islamic countries.
This is not only our problem. This is your problem, too. Recently indicted
war criminal Agim Ceku, now the head of the Muslim Albanian administration,
has been accepted in the White House and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
with great honors. In the times when America is leading the whole free world
in the global fight against jihad terror, Kosmet must not remain an
exception, a country where, for reasons incomprehensible to us, the
representatives of the American government stay side by side with the
criminal and jihad. Sacrifice of our country and our blood will not protect
you from jihad.

The fact is this, the answer of my country to any request of yours to
renounce Kosovo will be NO, no matter how strong the pressure from
Washington, or London or Brussels might be. All our politicians, all our
parties will say: there is no hand that will sign the surrender of Kosovo.

What I ask of you today is to raise your voice and ask your government to
reconsider its politics, which is as bad for America as it is for Serbia. I
plead you to tell the president Bush and secretary Condoliza Rice that this
is the politics that should be reconsidered.”

After this speech, Bishop Artemije supplemented his presentation by
answering numerous questions provoked by his testimony.

Bishop Artemije along with the members of the delegation which consists of
the members of Serbian National Council of Kosovo and Metohija, Mrs. Rada
Trajkovic and Mr. Dragan Velic, as well as the professor of the Faculty of
Political Science Mr. Miroljub Jevtic and the prior of Banjska monastery
Simeon also met with the Ambassador of Serbia in Washington Mr. Ivan
Vujacic, and after that, the representatives of the Congress of Serbian Union.

Listen to Jim Jatras interview at the Don Kroah Show
Jim is an attorney at the Venable law firm in Washington, DC. For many years
Jim was a policy analyst for the Republican Leadership in the US Senate, and
before that served as a diplomat with the State Department. On Monday, he
will be on the Don Kroah Show to talk about Kosovo. It seems that a lot of
people here may have forgotten about Kosovo but that doesn't mean the
problem has gone away. In fact, it's getting a lot worse. As Jim will tell
us, Kosovo's Orthodox Christian Serbian community -- of which Jim is the
authorized representative -- is facing extinction at the hands of a violent
jihad movement if Kosovo is detached from Serbia and made an independent
country.
