Update sets lists to accomodate KERNEL_DIR. When both KERNEL_DIR and
MKDEBUG are defined, we create an empty $DESTDIR/usr/libdata/debug/netbsd/
directory.

Should fix ``build.sh release'' issue reported in kern/55923

XXX Since nothing ever seems to populate this directory, perhaps we should
XXX simply prevent its creation? If we do create it, should its creation
XXX perhaps be conditioned on MKKDEBUG rather than MKDEBUG?

XXX There is still another problem with ``build.sh install-image'' but I
XXX open a new PR for that.

Will it?  The build only does "fix obsolete" iirc, so if you did a
build with old dhcpcd and then did an update build with new, the build
will fail with extra files in destdir, I expect.

Can we revert the whole thing now please?

RDMSR/WRMSR are privileged instructions, and cannot work in cpuctl. I
don't understand how adding RDMWR/WRMSR in cpuctl could have possibly
worked on any AMD configuration.

Right, handling these is buried in an AWK script emedded in
src/distrib/sets/sets.subr

  /^-/ {
  notwanted[substr($1, 2)] = 1;

I didn't build with a clean destdir, because it would have taken too much
time; between the tries I removed obj/lib/libnvmm to force a rebuild, but
it's clear that was wrong. Anyway my AMD setup is ridiculous, I will erase

It is still failing: for reasons unclear to me libnvmm is installed into /lib,
but the set lists expect /usr/lib.

Otherwise the build looks fine.

I've tested several combinations, I still don't understand how we can tell

It's not complicated, we just want /usr/lib/libnvmm*, and nothing else. Just

Yet it keeps building /lib/libnvmm.so* and /usr/lib/i386/libnvmm*, I've no

Restore shlib version accidentally bumped in the previous commit.
Fix debug build for i386.

this seems incorrect.

for x86, the ati driver should be .so.18 and the ati_old should
be .so.6. for everyone else (aka non-drm), only ati should be
around at .so.6.

I understand what you meant. New ati driver can be built with attached
patch (both for amd64 and i386). However, I cannot test it because of
lack of hardware.

ah, i think i'm partly wrong. most of your patch shouldn't
be needed, and i realised:

the "ati" driver is a frontend, it's version should stay
as is. it is the radeon/radeon_old that i'm talking about.

so, your original change is probably OK. thanks, and sorry
for the noise!

No noise ;-). Thanks for your explanation!

actually, martin@ already tried an nvme card on his sparc64 but
it appears to require PCIe 2.x at a minimum, and his box was
PCIe 1.x. or so i recall.. the card didn't even appear vaguely.

but maybe a more modern sparc64 box with PCIe 2.x or newer works
better..

as i said elsewhere -- the right solution here is to put those
files into new mtree files in src/etc/mtree, and avoid creating
them for the builds that don't want them.

(personally, i'd just always create them and have them be empty
and ignored for any sort of build that doesn't put files in
there.

putting any marker (like gcc, or compat) on these subdirs means
that they'll always be removed on some build types, ie, that
means that the obsolete phase will *always* do something for a
fresh build.

But they are only created with MKCOMPAT=yes (the mtree file is used
conditionally), so at least the compat as marker is needed (this is the
problem that triggered the original change).

actually, they should be marked just compat as they're only
created for compat builds.

libdns was minor bumped after last bind update you should mark old entries

 - zfs attributes missing
 - missing debug libs

I think that this is not true for shared libraries; this happens automatically
now. Perhaps not for .debug libraries? If that's the case it should be fixed.

I tweaked postinstall, quite some time ago, to handle debug libraries

Actually, only minor number changes are handled automatically for both
shared/debug libraries.

I do have, on my TODO list, to add a postinstall majorlib target
(which will default to off) to ease builds when major is incremented.
This is a real pain for MKDEBUG builds ... Just like kernel version
bump versus module tree.

Hmm.

I chose xorg.conf because there were very few NetBSD/zaurus users
and there was no model specific hardware settings, so I thought
less manual configuration was better to start Xserver after install.

But if guys really claim we should keep a correct style in any case
I'll rename it.

I don't think it should be in xetc. It would cause much more
unnecessary MACHINE dependent md.foo sets in releasedir.

That's fine, but either the Xserver should just DTRT without a
configuration file (like in does in other platforms), or the
configuration file should really be treated as such.

Keeping it as xorg.conf is fine as long as it is in xetc.tgz. You don't
want to screw up user-modified configuration files when they unpack
xserver.tgz ;-)

I think get rid of the perfuse guard keyword - it may be that I
misled people with my post to tech-userlevel, sorry, since the
examples I used had the guard in place; however none of the other
puffs-based entries use any guards so best to get rid of it.

Hmm I have already added MKPERFUSE so please revert mine commits or yours :).

Please also document these MKVOODOOS.

I have a gut feeling that half of these won't even build...

Thanks for fixing this. Too bad we can not test PR bin/43394... ;-).

True, although bin/43394 really describes a wider problem. There is
simply too much magic/voodoo required to keep the build system happy.

Indeed, and AFAIR none of this is really documented, at least in one place.
Trial and error, and try to remember the steps, which vary across the use
cases (a file, a directory, a test, Atffile, three separate entries for
manual pages, variance across sets, postinstall things, ... ad infinitum).

No. That are the ad.mips64xx files, right? Why are there two them?
For both endianesses of the CPU?

Does mips64 install in /usr/lib and /usr/lib/64 ?

Probably just because we don't have a proper environment variable
 for both mips64eb and mips64el.
 (${MACHINE_CPU} for mips64e? is mips, not mips64)

  Does mips64 install in /usr/lib and /usr/lib/64 ?

 According to this message
  http://mail-index.netbsd.org/port-mips/2009/08/21/msg000142.html
mips64 has three ABI libs, as src/compat/README says:

  This
allows 32-bit libraries for the amd64 and sparc64 ports, and enables
the mips64 port to support all three of old-style 32-bit (o32), the
new 32-bit (default, n32, 64-bit CPU required) or the 64-bit ABI.

/usr/lib is for N32 (which is the default on NetBSD/mips64?),
/usr/lib/64 is for N64 (for true 64bit environment?), and
/usr/lib/o32 is for O32 (which is for traditional NetBSD/mips binaries?),
I think. (probably we should note it in README?)

this is all correct. thanks!

you can see why both myself and agc@ have worked on ways to
generate these lists, rather than maintain them by hand!
lucky for me, al's method seems to be (a) better and (b)
done and mostly working :-)
