Abyei’s traditional leaders to hold meetings in Addis Ababa next week

Sudan’s co-chair of the Abyei Joint Oversight Committee (AJOC) Hassan Ali
Nemir said that joint meetings with South Sudan side will resume on 17 -18
August in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Nemir said in a press statement in Khartoum that the joint meetings will
discuss the implementation of the agreement signed on June 20, 2011.He
explained that the traditional leaders’ delegation will also discuss issues
pertaining to peaceful coexistence and some isolated incidences that have
been happening between the two communities.

The Sudanese official called on the United Nations Interim Security Forces
for Abyei (UNISFA) to provide security to all citizens in the area.

South Sudan’s co-chair of the Abyei committee could not immediately be
reached for comment.
