According to police authorities from Torit, “armed men hijacked a taxi Hiace” travelling on its way from Torit to Juba on Monday afternoon. Speaking to Nyamilepedia press yesterday morning, Justine Kilopas, the Torit Acting police Chief Inspector said that “armed robber have taken along one passenger plus passenger’s luggage”. Officer Kilopas added that the armed men, whom he identified as “unknown gunmen”, have taken the clothes which were put on by the passengers. Police says “The unknown armed men stopped the taxi carrying fourteen passengers at Lolere area within Liri County, Jubek state, they prearranged the driver to drive inedible road into bushes site,” Police said. Police said that the passengers were distressed and remaining passengers have unfaltering to return to Torit Central County in Imatong state. “We police have ordered that any individual cars travelling from Torit to Juba temporarily have been stopped, unless on requesting for convoy will be provided for security reasons and safety,” Kilopas said. The police authority said the “unknown armed gunmen attacked a passenger vehicle and looted properties” along the Juba- Torit Road for the past two months. One of the passengers told our editorial team that the gunmen were using another car, which they parked by the roadside. When the bus approached the spot, the gunmen started shooting, forcing the driver to stop. The passengers ran for safety in the nearby bushes. “We were coming from Torit to Juba; we saw a group of three people. They had guns. They started shooting at us and so we stopped and started running as the shoot at us,” the passenger, who requested anonymity said, adding that they returned to the vehicle after their shooters had left the scene. The Deputy Spokesperson for the National Police Service, Felix Charles, says joint forces have been deployed along all roads leading out of Juba to reduce insecurity. “So Juba roads have patrols and then we have some joint operation units along these roads to avoid any type of crimes that will arise.” There have been recurrent ambushes on the major roads leading to Juba, capital City of the republic of South Sudan in recent months. The Opposition forces, loyal to Vice President Machar, who were deposed from the capital in July claim control of major roads including the Juba-Nimule, Juba Torit and Juba Bor roads. For more than two months areas around Juba have witnessed major atrocities that involve heavy fighting between the government forces and the SPLA in Opposition. The government of Salva Kiir, which imposed unpopular First Vice President, Taban Deng Gai, has allowed for cantonment of Opposition forces in the area, however, it remains unclear if the government would only allow troops that would be loyal to FVP imposed or other armed Opposition forces. -- To post to this group, send email to southsudankob@googlegroups.com To unsubscribe from this group, send email to southsudankob+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com Visit this group at https://groups.google.com/d/forum/southsudankob View this message at https://groups.google.com/d/msg/southsudankob/topic-id/message-id For more options, visit https://groups.google.com/d/optout --- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "South Sudan Info - The Kob" group.
