Police arrest and release 23 women at the nightclubs in Kwajok
KWAJOK (17 Sep.)

Police in Kwajok town have arrested 23 women found in television clubs on
Tuesday night, including four women who serve tea in the market and also
one SPLA soldier.

The women spent a night in police custody before being released on
Wednesday. They were warned of consequences if found again in the clubs.

Gogrial Police Commissioner Major General John Akot Maluth says that it is
unacceptable for married women to stay outside their houses at night.
“Clubs are not means for women but for men because women have other duties
to attend at homes like taking care of children.”

“It is not good and not even in our culture that women and men watch movies
together at night because a lot of thing may happen and this is what we
don’t want as police,” Akot said

General Akol also warned clubs owners not to play pornographic movies and
operate beyond working hours.

Meanwhile, one of the women who serves tea in the market but was among
those arrested explained that she was arrested while serving her customers.
“My working place is behind the club and my customers are most those who go
to the club,” she said.

She says she was only collecting cups when she was arrested.

“I was found collecting cups after I brought tea to my customers inside the
television room. That is how I was arrested and I tried to explain to
police officers but they refused and brought me here.”
