"moving pictures" - shortfilms and videos in autumn 2006 -------------------------------------
Since some time, Agricola de Cologne, Cologne based media artist, is turning his artistic focus more and more to moving pictures. These are certainly no films or videos in a classical sense, but in a technological concern they are digital videos anyway. Besides the development of the global context of his [NewMediaArtProjectNetwork]:||cologne www.nmartproject.net and all the associated projects, environments and sites, which he defines as his specific "net" artworking - dealing with moving pictures became most relevant since 2003, thus, not so long time ago. The numerous festival participations give evidence of a very active working (see also http://www.agricola-de-cologne.de/blog/?page_id=18) just to mention some most recent ones, "House of Tomorrow" (see also streaming on http://movingpictures.agricola-de-cologne.de/volume11/hot/index.html) on Moskow International Film Festival 2006 in the category experimental film in July, the same movie was participating in FILE - Electronic Language Festival Sao Paulo/Brazil in August. The European Festival of the Experimental Film in Vitoria-Gasteiz (Spain/Basque country) in June, and International Panorama of Independant Film & Video Patras /Greece in September show "Distortion Projected" (see also streaming on http://www.nmartproject.net/agricola/mpc/volume11/distortion/index.html More info on http://bio.agricola-de-cologne.de In 2005, Asolo Art Film Festival was presenting "Message from Behind a Wall" (see also streaming on http://movingpictures.agricola-de-cologne.de/volume11/wall.html) and in 2006, this festival is showing this film in Italian television for promoting the festival which is taking place in Asolo/Italy 4-8 October - more info on http://bio.agricola-de-cologne.de The Agricola de Cologne Moving Picture Collection added another two moving pictures recently, which are based on film material the artist shot during his visit on Cuba past June. You find them on http://movingpictures.agricola-de-cologne.de But Agricola de Cologne is dealing with moving pictures also in another way and from another position, as a curator. VideoChannel - http://videochannel.newmediafest.org - once installed as an artwork and a corporate part of his global networking project [R][R][F]200x--->XP http://rrf200x.newmediafest.org, VideoChannel is incorporating currently 20 curators, 200 artists and more than 200 videos - is currently better known as an individually acting instance - he is chief curating - due to its selections on the theme "memory and identity", and its presentations online and on divers festival. These activities started in 2005, and are consequently continued also in 2006, for instance - by initiating Cologne OFF - Cologne Online Film Festival http://coff.newmediafest.org - a festival directed by Agricola de Cologne and organised online, as well as offline but acting without a static physcial festival location. After its launch in April 2006 - Cologne OFF I - 1st edition of Cologne Online Film Festival featuring 40 shortfilms and videos under the umbrella of the theme "identityscapes" , the 2nd edition of Cologne OFF is planned to be launched under the theme "image vs music" online on 12 October, and offline in the framework of PI 5 Video Festival Szczecin/Poland - 20-22 October 2006. VideoChannel which forms the basis of Cologne OFF, is presenting selections of the 1st & 2nd edition of Cologne OFF, not only on this festival in Poland, but also later - 16-18 November at Festival International de Arte Digital Rosario/Argentina, Chroma - Festival de Arte Audiovisual Guadalajarra/Mexico 12-17 November 2006, and the selection "genderscapes" on Teknikunst Festival Melbourne/Australia 28 October - 3 November.
