Episode eight in the series continues to look at how composers working with
generative systems implement change in their works. This episode focuses on
models of change using mathematical structures derived from complex dynamic
systems observed in nature. Through advances in mathematics, physics and
biology, the programme looks at how composers have utilised the central
findings of chaos theory and emergent systems – such as cellular automata,
Lindenmeyer Systems and fractal geometry – to generate automated dynamic
patterns of change.

see more info here:

http://rixc.lv/12
Art+Communication is Riga based festival for art, science and
technologies that is renowned across Europe for its proposed
innovative themes. This year's festival with the title Art of
Resilience explores sustainable future development from the position
of resilience tactics, addresses relationships of nature and
technology and discusses the role of art in developing a
techno-ecological perspective.

about the exhibition (which is still open thill the end of this week):

This year's festival exhibition showcases two artworks - installation
Dancing with'without Darvin by Swiss-German artist collective
Knowbotiq and Biotricity No. 5 by Latvian artist collective RIXC in
collaboration with Voldemars Johansons. Swiss-German artists are
experimenting with camouflage suits while artists together with
scientists from Latvia are building green energy stations, making
visible and audible the process of creating 'bacteria electricity'
and seeking relations between biological (natural) and electronic
(technological) networks.

[spectre] Ominous, new work for the Xth Sense at the 5th Live Electronic Music Competition, ECPNM, BE

2012-11-02 Diskussionsfäden Marco Donnarumma
(sorry for x-post)

Dear all,

A novel piece for the Xth Sense [1], my visceral biophysical instrument,
was commissioned by ECPNM (European Conference of Promoters of New Music),
in occasion of the finals of the 5th Live Electronic Music Project
Competition, during the ISCM World New Music Days [2].

The new work, titled Ominous, is ready to be premiered tomorrow at De
Singel concert hall, in Atwerp, BE.

Ominous is a sculpture of incarnated sound... The performance embodies,
before the audience, the metaphor of an invisible and unknown object
enclosed in my hands. This is made of malleable sonic matter. Similarly to
a mime, I model the object in the empty space by means of whole-body
gestures. The natural sound of my muscles and its virtual counterpart blend
together into an unstable sonic object... The listeners see through sound
the sculpture which their sight cannot perceive.

Tags: multidimensional gesture, machine learning, muscle sounds, visceral
embodiment.

Also on stage tomorrow John Eckhardt, one of the most fascinating
performers of the contemporary music scene.

fingers crossed!
best wishes,
