The firmware is loaded by modem_run, supplied in the firmware_loader directory. A newer version is needed with a silver modem. Try replacing the contents of firmware_loader with the CVS version of the user space driver: http://speedtouch.sourceforge.net/index.php?/download.en.html Recompile and reinstall.
