[speedtouch] Re: Fedora Core 2 Test 3 Issues (2.6.5 kernel)

2004-05-26 Thread Leonard den Ottolander

Hi,

It's a known bug. I asked for the fix to go into 2.6.6, but it was decided to
 wait until 2.6.7 instead.

FYI, Arjan van de Ven has made available a test kernel (2.6.6-1.383,
update to 2.6.7-rc1) for Fedora Core 2 that features a major USB
update. I assume these are Duncan's patches for 2.6.7.

Leonard.

Does this mean that the errors/warnings can be ignored?

 These don't look good

May 23 08:07:29 localhost kernel: usb 1-2: control timeout on ep0in
May 23 08:07:29 localhost kernel: hub 1-2:1.0: config failed, can't
read hub descriptor (err -110)

 but these are fine

May 23 08:07:29 localhost kernel: usb 2-2.2: usbfs: interface 1
claimed while 'modem_run' sets config #1
May 23 08:07:29 localhost kernel: usb 2-2.2: usbfs: interface 2
claimed while 'modem_run' sets config #1
May 23 08:07:29 localhost kernel: usb 2-2.2: bulk timeout on ep5in
May 23 08:07:29 localhost kernel: usbfs: USBDEVFS_BULK failed
dev 3 ep 0x85 len 512 ret -110
May 23 08:07:29 localhost kernel: usb 2-2.2: usbfs: interface 0
claimed while 'modem_run' sets config #1
May 23 08:07:29 localhost kernel: usb 2-2.2: usbfs: interface 1
claimed while 'modem_run' sets config #1
May 23 08:07:29 localhost kernel: usb 2-2.2: usbfs: interface 2
claimed while 'modem_run' sets config #1
May 23 08:07:47 localhost kernel: usbfs: process 1608 (modem_run)
did not claim interface 0 before use
Is there a possibility to solve these warnings?

actually there is, but you're going to have to wait a bit. You can get
rid of some of them by removing the (pointless) set_configuration bits
 in modem_run.c

Those modification have been made in modem_run, pppoa2 and pppoa3 in the
CVS repository of the speedtouch usermode driver.

Look at http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=32758 for instructions on
accessing CVS.

(Yes, I looked at the man page.) Peace, William Just type 'route' in
a terminal before and after your pppd is up and paste the two
results, maybe we can come up with something for you :)

Got it to work somehow. Problem was editting my masquerading firewall
script so that the device was ppp1 now instead of ppp0. Thanks!

One more question for the list: how do I disconnect the modem? Just
unplugging it leaves the drivers loaded and reserved for a VERY long
time; I also can't recconnect after that, unless I wait for the drivers
to clear for removal, or I reboot.

Thanks again in advance!
William
