did you try the 'undocumented' -b option into modem_run ? I repeat, this, and the

Sure, I tried both of them (had the -b already on).
Anyway, as long as I do NOT switch on any logging/debugging in
pppoa3, everything runs good enough for me..download speeds are around
the 24 Kbps (I still have a 256/64 connection).
Ok O.

It may not be of any help but my CRC errors stopped as soon as I switched
from onboard USB of my GA-7VAX mother board VIA chipset to a USB PCI card

Try cat /var/log/messages syslog.txt and send the relevant parts -
stuff related to modem_run, pppoa3, pppd at the end of the syslog.txt -

Hi Martin,
the return from the ifconfig ppp0 is shown below,
ppp0 Link encap:Point-to-Point Protocol
POINTOPOINT NOARP MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:0 errors:0
Also, add to those questions,
- Does his isp use pppoe instead of pppoa?
- Are his vic/vpi set correctly?

the syslog is a file in /var/log, called either syslog or messages.
We are looking for lines in this file that relate to the modem.
so look for lines beginning

Look here, xz!Le, it's late (here) but maybe this can help:
have a look in the file /etc/sysconfig/network and if it contains
some nonsensical line GATEWAY=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, remove that
line and retry
Good luck to you
Ok
