[speedtouch] ZZZlp2.eni Unknow revision

2004-02-23 Thread Anne et Thierry Chabot

Hello,
I have just installed :
speedtouch-rev 4.tar.gz and ZZZLP2.eni
on an Mdk9.2, with a speedtouch330 (silver color)

when i run modem_run, y see :
Firmware information (CRC:0x 223733c, Size:775509, Unknow revision -
please report) and the microcode is not uploaded.

Do I change the firmware ?

[speedtouch] Re: speedbundle-1.0 on Mandrake 9.1

2004-02-23 Thread Duncan Sands

Hi Konrad, thanks for testing.

Please try the latest version of the kernel module from CVS.
  Does it compile etc correctly?

 ./configure
 make
 make install

Executed correctly after I run (make init/main.o) in
 /lib/modules/2.4.21-0.13mdk/build

yeah, there is nothing I can do about that kind of problem (the configure
script should warn about it).
If you compile as root then everything should happen automagically.

Connection seems to be ok. Although I have no idea which module version is
used because new version didn't replace the old one. How can I check it?

I just bumped the version number in CVS and changed things so it is printed
when you do
modinfo speedtch

And how can I change version in use (besides overwritting the old one)?

To be sure, you need to delete the old one. Where does the old one live?

Thanks again,

Duncan.

So I don't have any idea where did that 2.4.21-0.13mdkcustom come from.
I tried to figure out where does $(MODLIB) in
INSTALLDIR := $(MODLIB)/kernel/drivers/usb
come from but no luck.

It comes from the kernel Makefile:

/lib/modules/2.4.21-0.13mdk/build/Makefile

I guess this means that the source in
/lib/modules/2.4.21-0.13mdk/build/
(which is supposed to be the source for your running
kernel) is not the source for your running kernel, since
EXTRAVERSION is different.

Looks like someone needs to spank Mandrake!

Ciao,

2004-02-23 Thread Leonard den Ottolander

Hello Edouard,

Are you expecting to commit more changes in regard to this issue?

Not at the moment. The best we can do is to reshape the
documentation. It would be even good to add some wise words about the
 kernel driver.

Maybe it is a good idea to release this version as beta4? Maybe after a
little polishing?

Since beta3 has been very stable for me for months I was wondering what
has to be done to get to a final release. Are there still issues with
pppoa2? Or with the turquoise original Speedtouch USB?

Leonard.

It seems You're right. I've checked two kernel-source packets:
kernel-source-2.4.21-0.13mdk.i586.rpm - MDK 9.1
kernel-source-2.4.22-10mdk.i586.rpm - MDK 9.2

Both contain custom suffix in EXTRAVERSION.

Unless there are another kernel-source packets that I'm not aware of, it seems
that someone is assuming that when I install kernel-source I WILL build my
custom kernel. Furthermore that someone assumes that I'll forget to name it -
so it's allready named custom.

If I'll have time I'll try and contact maintainer of those packets.

As for now I thought that some info on MDK in INSTALL would be nice.

Hope I've been helpfull.

[speedtouch] Re: speedbundle-1.0 on Mandrake 9.1

2004-02-23 Thread Konrad Klimaszewski

Hi, Duncan

 How about this:

 3. Mandrake problems

Building the module for the default Mandrake kernel may not work properly.
This is because the kernel source Mandrake provides does not match their
default kernel. This results in the module being installed in the wrong
directory. You will need to install a custom kernel before compiling the
 module.

I like it very much, but using defult kernel doesn't mean you can't use
speedtch module. Ofcource compiling your own custom kernel is a good thing
but not every linux user is willing to do that.

How about:
This results in the module being installed in the wrong directory. You will
have to edit Makefile to correct that. Another solution is to compile and
install a custom kernel before compiling the module.

And in Makefile
INSTALLDIR := $(MODLIB)/kernel/drivers/usb
#Uncomment the line below if you have problems with installing under Mandrake
#INSTALLDIR := /lib/modules/$(shell uname -r)/kernel/drivers/usb

This matches:
{0x0223733c, 775509, 1.0.10 - Win32 Rev 0400 SACHU3},

So you'd best test the CVS version and report back then. Good luck

What sort of problems ? i'm using it with a 2.6.3 kernel and it works
reliably for 16h network gaming sessions :-)

Btw, hotplug is still quite unrliable on 2.6 kernels and i prefer not
using it as it makes the kernel oopses in very dangerous moments as in
umount step.
