2004-06-18 Thread Maurizio Rosetti

Hello Andrew and all,

Do you have

usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs defaults 0 0

in /etc/fstab ? modem_run can't load the firmware if the USB isn't mounted

Yours, Andrew Benton

I've added the line to /etc/fstab, rebooted, yet the firmware still doesn't
get loaded. I've also noticed that check_adsl.sh gives the same message
before
and after the command service adsl start :

Plugin pppoatm.so loaded.
PPPoATM plugin_init
PPPoATM setdevname - remove unwanted options
PPPoATM setdevname_pppoatm - SUCCESS:8.35
connect(8.35): Resource temporarily unavailable

Maurizio Rosetti

Hi, maurizio,

I've just notice a bug in my adsl init script. In fact this script do
nothing because of a test at the begining of the file

[ -f /usr/lib/speedtouch/firmware.bin ] || exit 0

you should replace it by

[ -f /usr/share/speedtouch/firmware.bin ] || exit 0

It came from my old config that placed the firmware in /usr/lib instead
of /usr/share.

Maybe it can help :-/

I'm really sorry if the problem come from here !

I will try to fix my RPMS quickly

Have a nice day,

Fred

actually, I've been running the script startadsl.sh manually
did not succeed start the service

Maurizio Rosetti wrote:
Yes, I am. I've also tried to disinstall them and to install them again.
I use service adsl start ; the modem lights don't blink, the connection is
 absent,
and check_adsl.sh reports that the firmware doesn't get loaded (as Duncan
 Sands explained).

Hello,

I don't understand why the same solution doesn't work for me.
Hicham, have you copied (or renamed) ZZZLPboth.eni to firmware.bin ?

yes copy ZZZLPboth.eni to firmware.bin

just make sure that /etc/ppp/peers/speedtch is modified rather than
/etc/ppp/peers/adsl

Thanks

Maurizio

[speedtouch] mdk9.1 + 2.6.7 CRC errors

PLEASE, read the file INSTALL or INSTALL.fr in the package to know how

A i586 rpm package and source package are now available. Those packages
have been compiled on a Mandrake 10.0 system with a Pentium II processor.

They are available on the Sourceforge Project Filelist:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=32758

I'd like to have reports from Mandrake users (and other RPM based
distro) about their success (failure?) to use it.

Benoit PAPILLAULT

Using red modem, Mandrake 9.1 with vanilla 2.6.7 kernel, speedtouch-1.3
install from source (not RPM). With 2.6.6 and 1.2 it worked OK with
warnings and would not hang up properly. Now gives no errors in the logs
when connecting. Good work!

What I do get is a lot of:

Jun 18 12:27:19 nevingor pppoa3[6410]: CRC error in AAL5 frame

..when running shareaza (P2P client). I never got these errors with
2.6.6. It seems when there are a lot of small packets/many connections
it throws them all the time and things go a lot slower..

On a full speed download I get good throughput (sustained 118KB/s on
1mbit ADSL) and the CRC errors are rare.

The new RPMS are ready :

speedtouch-1.2-2.GrumZ.(i386|src).rpm

BTW, is the new driver version 1.3 is a new version of modem_run or of the user-space
drivers ? As my packages use the driver present in the kernel, is it necessary that I
upgrade them with this new version or not ?

thanks in advance,

Best regards,

Fred

Right. A new driver has been released. There are still some minor bugs
(like yours) and the http://speedtouch.sourceforge.net/ site has not
 been updated yet.

Hello,
Just to say I installed from last CVS on Slackware-current with a Speedtouch
USB modem (the green skate) and everything went fine.
Eric.
