It may happen that the authentification server is somewhat slower to answer
than the timeout set in pppd default values.
Timeout will be reached after lcp-max-configure (default 10) *
lcp-echo-interval.(default 3)
so the 30s that you see in your log.

You should give more time than default lcp-max-configure 10 value.
Try with
lcp-max-configure 50
That's what we used on IPCop and it was necessary for me sometime.
I often had answer between 30 and 45s.

[speedtouch] speedtouch ST330 USB works from time to time on opensuse 10.0

2006-12-21 Thread Piotr Sawicki

Hello,
I have opensuse 10.0 with speedtouch ST330 on usb. I have configured it to
work by using script from http://steve-parker.org/speedtouchconf/

Previously I have used mandrake 10.0 on a different harddrive and the modem
was working perfect.

Now, it works from time to time. Here is output from /var/log/messages about
trying to establish the connection:

I had trouble with this!

Try the Connect_Timeout parameter in ifcfg-ppp0

it sounds like a timing issue. It's important not to try to bring up
ppp0 too fast after the modem is discovered by the USB subsystem. Most
scripts (eg: hotplug or boot scripts) have a delay (eg: sleep 10) to
make sure the modem is ready before running pppd. Try increasing the
delay.

Ciao,

D.
