Hi all, as you doubtless know, there are two drivers
for the Alcatel speedtouch ADSL modem: one from
Alcatel (more or less; written by Johan Verrept), see
http://www.linux-usb.org/SpeedTouch/howto.html.
I'll refer to this as the kernel space driver since most
of it is implemented as a kernel
I am using Redhat 7.2 with the default 2.4.7-10 kernel. I am also using the
speedtouch / USB hotplug combination.
When the link fails, it can never reconnect. The only way I can get back
online is to reboot the machine.
In what way does the link fail?

I also have some problems with 2.5.6. I have a boot-time script
that launches modem_run and pppd. It fails with 2.5.6. However,
if I kill pppd and modem_run, then launch them again, it works.

Currently modem_run
(1) ignores the -m flag (it sets monitoring but never uses it)
(2) watches if the ADSL line goes up (in a child process) and
signals the parent if it goes up. After the first signal is sent, the
parent exits so it is pointless to continue to monitor - the signal
is just lost.
Another program/driver is already accessing the modem...

I really don't want have to change their drivers back to the kernel-mode as
it stops them from being able to cleanly shutdown. (We changed to these
drivers so that the could regain their ability to reliably remote reboot)
The latest CVS version of the kernel module should not have this

I wanted to give a try at the speedtch kernel module as the debian SID
now has support for a pppoatm aware ppp daemon. Perhaps Duncan can
answer these questions.
NB: I did not download the speedbundle tarball, i just used tools from
the debian SID and your doc

I also tried speedbundle but can't compile it (fails somewhere in
ppp/pppd). I tried the original Makefile and the one from the mailinglist
for Redhat.
