Nope, I checked with both fix versions just now and it doesn't work.
I thought you have decided to deprecate this functionality and I was
wondering was there a replacement for it?
If that wasn't the case and this is supposed to work, should I expect
another fix version soon that fixes

in the meantime Sphinx 7.2.2 was released that seems to revert some
changes made with 7.2.0. Maybe that version fixes some of your issues.
