couple
of hours under the bonnet yesterday, I have the car running much better.
Not quite
perfect, but good enough that I can daily drive it and deal with the
residual problem later (like
in 5 months when it gets warm
My 78 spit is running horribly. It accelerates poorly and even revs slowly
in neutral. It cruises Ok on flat ground, but if there is a hill or any
acceleration is called for, it just bogs down. Gas mileage has plummeted
from about 27mpg to about 18-20mpg.
Car has stock Stromberg single carb
With a volt meter, cehck the coil voltage with and without the engine
running.
Running: 8-10 volts or so.
Off: 12 volts or so.
During cranking the voltage will be high but once it starts, the ballast
rsistor will keep the voltage down to avoid baking a coil. If a coil does
