What do people use to oil the threaded front trunnion? I haven't been able
to find an pressure oil type of grease gun. Any suggestions?

Just use a standard grease gun, but fill it full of engine oil rather
than grease.

Similar to a dumb question:
If I sell the diff and rear axles from a spare bare chassis ('78-79),
will I still be able to roll the chassis around, or will the rear
wheels fall off?
I imagine I'd have to tie the center of the transverse leafs to the
chassis to keep some ride height . . . .

The rear wheels will fall off.
The rear wheels are held rigidly to the driveshaft, and are
perpendicular to it. If you remove the diff, the inner ends of the
driveshafts are free to flop around wherever they want to, thus allowing
the wheels to adopt serious camber, and point left/right/wherever

some reason of an IRS rear with separate stub axles in the hubs rather
than

Since the axles are the lower contril arm in the swing axle suspension,
disconnecting them from the diff will cause the things to be only connected
by the upper control element (which is in this case the spring). If you
don't have the diff in place to secure the spring, it will allow the wheels
