Sorry Tobias,

I don't know what the figures mean. A number of words have been used during
the past 2 months. Several words have been repeated with different figures. I
noticed the same words also on other Russian mil frequencies, so they are not
exclusively used by the buzzer.

Re the location of the station: it has been moved to a location ca 1.3 km
further east. It is an identical facility as the old one.

I will try to upload Numbers Oddities #157 tomorrow with more info.

I thought the first two fields are some kind of checksums for the

Kevin,

The original communication center was much bigger than it is now. Only part of
it is still being used. The activity just moved to another part of the same
center, ca 1.3km further to the east. See the Google Earth pictures in NO #156
and check Google Earth. The KMZ files are also on the NO website

Wow. Those pictures of UVB-76 remind me of some of the poverty-row AM radio
stations I worked for as a DJ!

I don't think that's a missile silo. Those pictures of the row of metal
cabinets with meters at the top are definitely radio transmitters. They look
just like the AM transmitters I used to take readings from every day.

Hi Mary! I've seen a few stations like this myself, but they never had
blast doors. :-)

The pictures look to me like one of those nuke-hardened facilities deep
underground or inside granite mountains, that both sides spent a lot of
money on. The racks with the meters are definitely transmitters, and
pretty big ones. It could be a missile silo, since they'd need comm
capability. It might also be a command-control or
continuity-of-government center, which would explain the office space,
studio-type room, and phone interconnects. If it's like the facilities
we built, there'd be blast-hardened antennas for fallback use by the
transmitters on-site, and a lot of wiring and RF plumbing.

I can't see this as a possible UVB-76 location, though. Too decrepit
for a facility that is obviously still on-air at least part time. That
transmitter is probably in a building like the one they show us from
Google Earth, with the antenna farm in the woods.

I thought the first two fields are some kind of checksums for the

 Dear Hugh:

What you're saying makes a lot of sense. From the pictures, the facility
certainly does look abandoned, and having been such for a long time. And a
missile silo certainly would need comm capability, or else how would they know
when to launch/not launch?

None of the AM (or FM) stations I ever worked for ever needed hardened blast
doors, although some of the swill
we were forced to play practically begged for nuking (Little River Band,
anyone?).

Now, more on-topic -- has any Spook here in Southern California heard any
numbers stations lately emanating from Europe or the Slavic countries?
