I have seen it go both ways. It depends on the AHJ. I have had the “sprinkler
scientist” type tell me that it isn’t above a small room so no.

I have run into this storage arrangement a couple times. The best solution, at
least for the last project was to perforate the bin boxes with holes large
enough to drain the water but soo small for the storage to pass through. Pretty
simple solution depending the application.

Counter intuitive it is. Once we did a core and shell mercantile that had 4/12
pitch wood roof. Did rough-in for OH2. The first tenant that signed up wanted a
ceiling changing the attic to LH. The system had to be changed out to meet LH
spacing and calc’s. Go figure.
