I'm thinking there could be several steel pipes out there that are
corrosion resistant, either due to alloy or to coating, but I coyuldn't say

We had this situation at a job we're doing now, and we ended up getting the
MIC testing from Potter, and got galvanic corrosion reports from the water
authority. The EoR accepted the system-wide report, but the water authority
also offered to do a spot test if they needed it. So I would check

With my previous-previous employer, I remember we had serious issues with
local made cast iron fittings in China, say 2002 - 2005 era.
OSY valves corroded, internal stem u/g valves seized in 12 months or so,
fittings showed accelerated corrosion.
Memory says we then gave it to
I ran into a similar problem with XL pipe while inspecting a leak on
sprig ups and found that the threads were cut to deep, it seemed like
only the sprigs with bad cuts were corroading not any other sprigs.
The system was only a few years old at the time ( more than ten years
ago). I
Steve,
Two suggestions:
- Could it be that the drops are filled with water (due to flushing)
and the branches are dry (due to draining or otherwaise)?
- Could it be that the fittings on top of the drops are warmer than
other fittings in the system (due to rising moist air from the room below)?

I think your comment number 3 may be part of the problem, based on
what I am hearing. Also, are fittings made in all the way or can they
be? Are the drops threadable thinwall as well?

Are we talking about XL? I would guess that the crew that performed the
final cutbacks threaded the pipe too shallow. If the space above ceiling is
plenum space, the leaks may never show themselves below ceiling.
I would be interested to see a fitting cut in half in order to find out
whether
