This fitting (Michigan fitting) was used prior to or alternative to VMTs
in the early eighties
to provide a cheap outlet in the middle of a full stick of pipe. FIT
tees were installed on the up and
downstream ends.

Even designers with many years of experience have trouble with this
Carlo- it is rather subtle.
My understanding is (and I don't mean to shout, upper case is meant
for distinction):
Where seismic protection is required-
All MAINS have to be BRACED.
All LINES 2.5" or bigger have to be BRACED.
NFPA 13 2016 9.3.5.5.1 and this only refers to branch-lines. If it’s a main its

Well yesterday I was doing a punch list for this sprinkler installation job and
noticed that they were not any seismic bracing attached to the sprinkler
system. So I went back to check the shop drawings and
This is a new installation. The manufacturer is AC and they get their

pumps are exempt from the Premium requirement, however if the manufacturer
sells the motors mostly to other industries they may have made changes
that give up the required Design type B to make it meet the premium
I am being told this by the motor manufacturer. They say they have to do
this by DOE requirements.
