I remember there was always a great deal of controversy over the material, at
least in WA State. The our City’s Building Department (Plumbiing Code AHJ)
opposed its use, and lost in some formal hearing. I remember the industry did

My 2002 copies of 13 and 13R have it as an option under specially listed pipe,
NFPA 13- section: 6.3.6.1, and NFPA 13R-section: 5.2.2.2.

My client has been asked to relocate some sprinklers. Since PB is no longer
permitted, you would have to transition to another material, such as CPVC. I
was looking to see if there was an adapter to do that. If I recall, the ID of
PB is different than standard sch 40.

A few years ago I was called to do an inspection at a condo and it was
installed with polybutylene pipe and omega heads. I couldn't get out of
there fast enough. The gauge showed pressure, no inspection, no bill, no
trace I was there. I deny it.
