Yes there is SS pipe and fittings.
The rod requirement is typical in Clean areas and food processing/handling
areas to prevent accumulation of contaminants in the threads.
This very common in cGMP environments having to comply with USDA and FDA
requirements.

pipe to potentially trap the small amount of water?
I could see where they might think this would become a potential weak point
