For reference, I've got an embedded application (Linux/UBIFS on NAND) that's write-heavy, and which has been pretty well optimized for SQlite performance. I replaced the library with the latest snapshot and set journal_mode=WAL, no further tweaking of checkpointing or anything, and log performance improved by ~30%.
