Glad it worked out. Sorry for my misdirection: the OS will use the
edited hosts file immediately, but LMS clearly gives up on mysb.com if
it isn't there when LMS starts.

LMS definitelys think the port is busy or inacessible - so either
something on the server is keeping a port open (use lsof -i) or
somehting has opened a connection into the server and has kept port 9000

Thanks BPA Nothing on my Network is using port 9000. So it's not that.

FWIW: if your LMS should connect to mysb.com coming from the same IP
address as you using your browser (or curl), then there's not a single
request coming from your LMS to mysb.com. I checked all log files.

alpha-character is my encoded password. So it appears that mysm.com is
not returning the account information, instead only sending the
publically available apps and links.
Please don't come to conclusions without understanding what's going on.
This call is not supposed to return your apps.

Have you tried using a media player such as vlc or mplayer and playing
the same radio stream on the Pi
If port 9000 is already in use (typically a Upnp/DLNA server) then LMS
will try the next available port 9001,9002 etc.

Digging into networking on my server, I found host entries for

23.21.99.135mysqueezebox.com , www.mysqueezebox.com

I do not know why these are here but I have to think
