I agree, I've seen many strange things - just never a BIOS battery that
sorta works. Once power is applied, it's not used. I suppose it could
pooch the saved settings...maybe...

This may be an issue. I think my initial username did change subsequent
to moving to a new computer. I had an issue using the username from my
old machine.

Ok, in this case my fix script might fail.

Please fire up a terminal and run:

ls -l ~/Library/Logs/ | grep Squeezebox

What would that give you? Sometimes there's a problem with the
permissions on that folder (as you've seen in the test you run
previously). Make sure your user has full access to that folder and its
content.

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Secure Remote Streaming to Mobile Player

2018-12-05 Thread markm9999

Hi,

I know this question or similar has been asked many times before, but
now that mobile streaming is all the rage with the hip young kids, I was
wondering if someone has come up with a solution...

I've been doing some searching and tested 2 other products that allow
secure External Streaming- i.e. Tonido & SubSonic, on both VortexBox as
well as native Windows installs of both these products.

Tonido is nice because the service proxies the stream (+1 for that)
SubSonic relies on a port forwarding setup within your router (it tries
to do it for you via UPNP). Not really a fan of that.

Both of there products use HTTPS, well the SubSonic setup of this is a
manual process :(.

Since we all know (cough..) that we should NEVER expose the LMS server
directly to the Internet, I'm wondering if anyone has come up with a
solution (software and/or services stack) to allow our favorite mobile
players to connect to LMS like the Tonido & Subsonic players can.

If it matters, I've also tested encapsulating the LMS servers HTTP
stream via 'stunnel', and can get to LMS without issue this way,
including the ../stream.mp3 method of playing tunes.

Are there any others options that should be looked at? Mobile apps that
setup a lighter weight proxy tunnel, rather than a full blown VPN
connection?

Would this take both a server-side component (Could this be done with a
plugin?) and would the players need modifications also?

Has anyone overcome these challenges yet?

Obviously, the best option would be something that fully encapsulates
LMS, with features like:

- Proxying of the the stream
- A frontend login with multiple usernames/passwords
- Accounts would have restrictions on what the mobile player can do
when it's operating in truly mobile mode -

  - Whether it can only control itself or other players
  - Whether is can change server settings/cause a rescan, etc.
  -

I for one would LOVE to have Pippin of iPeng fame build this missing
piece, and then charge a small annual fee for access ;)

Frankly, I find this scenario unlikely. In my 30+ years of building
PC's, I've never experienced something like that.

Computers can run without BIOS battery, it's just that the computer will
constantly prompt you for the default BIOS settings after it loses
power.

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Odd AAC/M4A Issue

2018-12-05 Thread atrocity

I've been fooling around with downloading videos from YouTube and
demuxing the AAC streams into M4A files. (Note: Not for piracy of easily
paid-for items, but for things like
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtldnhbjmEs.) LMS will happily play the
resulting files via drag and drop or Music Folder, but will not
recognize the metadata and, I assume for that reason, doesn't add them
to the library after a scan. The files behave completely normally when
opened in Foobar2000, mp3tag and (shockingly!) even in iTunes.

I'm using ffmpeg to do the work and can immediately see via its helper
ffprobe that there are differences in the metadata. A "normal" AAC/M4A
file starts off with:

Code:

  major_brand : M4A
  minor_version : 0
  compatible_brands: M4A mp42isom

While the files LMS doesn't like start off with:

Code:

  major_brand : M4V
  minor_version : 512
  compatible_brands: isomiso2avc1

I plan to keep looking at the ffmpeg documentation to see if I can find
any obvious answer, but it makes my brain hurt, so I thought I'd ask
here first just in case someone else has encountered this.

This may be an issue. I think my initial username did change subsequent
to moving to a new computer. I had an issue using the username from my

Thoughts? Should I look to open the old user name and re-do the process
or update permissions of my new user. It is an administrator. Is that
not enough?

Thanks. May be progress here.
