Why can’t you call a favourite from the CLI if it’s in a folder? Are you
sure? Have you tried?

But it’s not a playlist is it?
A playlist plays items in sequence.
You are treating it as a collection of favourites.
Why should the developers (Michael) code for an unintended use when
favourites does exactly what you want - albeit you might have to
manually create them if you want a station in 2 or more places?
I’m sure Michael has a long list of development ideas that would rank
ahead of this.

With respect your use case is a bit bizarre.

Playlists are intended as just that not as a means of categorising Radio
stations. I doubt the developers ever thought anyone would do this hence
when playing the item it displays the associated artwork of the base
entry.

If you want to group Radio stations together create some folders inside
Favourites.

It only happens if you have Qobuz album and then add local.
Rather than clear and rescan you can workaround by

Remove local album
Rescan for new
Edit local album name e.g. append “(CD)” or something else in brackets
Add back and rescan

If you have the local album first and add it in Qobuz later all is well

It only takes *one* track to have an ARTISTSORT or ALBUMARTISTSORT tag

Have you looked at Random Seeds which Michael kindly implemented a few
years ago - genre based

You just need to setup Random Mix to say 5 tracks then call like this

randomplay://track?genres=Blues%20Rock=1

Generates a playlist of 5 tracks of Blues Rock which DSTM/LastMix then
takes over based on Player settings

I think you should leave well alone.

On a QNAP files reside in either Qmultimedia or Multimedia depending on
age.
If you look at the file system you’ll find that whichever it is is
actually a symlink elsewhere.
LMS should be looking at /Qmultimedia/Music or /Multimedia/Music without
any reference to CACHEDEV

Is one track sufficient as a seed? Won’t DSTM retain what was playing
beforehand as part of its track selection?

Example.
If you had previously been playing Classical music and then using
JSONRPC called a Soul track wouldn’t DSTM create a mix containing
elements of both genres?

If you are on Windows you may well be able to use mp3tag to script

Have a read about “elevated privileges”. In short although your user may
be an Administrator in Windows 10 there is still one higher authority.
When you do “run as administrator” you are invoking that higher
authority.

What I would do.

Remove W7 disk from machine and put safely to one side.
Insert new SSD go to BIOS and make it the bootable disk.
Install W10 on it and install LMS but not configure.
Shut down PC
Add old W7 disk as second non bootable drive.
You won't be able to do dual boot but you will have access to all your
W7 files.

If you really find that you need to boot into W7 for some obscure reason
then disconnect W10 drive and set BIOS accordingly.

I -think- it was that each server has a unique server ID and using the

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] High resolution FLACs (192/24) stuttering during playback

2022-11-09 Thread d6jg

Although networking per se is not involved TCP/UDP via the network stack
is still in play as Squeezelite will be connecting to LMS via 127.0,0.1
or the Pi’s IP address but it’s unlikely to be causing the stuttering if
no transcoding / sync is involved.

Have you tried a different USB stick and is it connected to a USB3 port?
USB sticks vary in quality.

Also 8.1.2 is now very long in the tooth.

No apology required.

Above I said do not try to change the Qmultimedia access settings
without finding out what caused the issue but I perhaps didn’t explain
this very well.

By systematically going through the WinSCP screenshots we have
established that group ownership of the new files is the problem LMS
wise. You now have a workaround for LMS by recursively changing the
permissions on that folder. What we haven’t identified is what has
caused the change in the way files are saved ownership wise.

Normally I’d expect files that were owned by the administrators group to
be readable by LMS. I suspect that either you or an update of some kind
may have inadvertently promoted the everyone group from read to
read/write for some purpose but I can’t be sure. If I were you I’d want
to be sure that changing everyone group to read only was the answer
before I applied the change to every music file I owned.

Having thought about this further I think some careful testing is going
to be required first.

I know you are trying to help but he shouldn't change *everything*

I did say more than once before that you needed to compare working to
non working and you said you had!

The remaining issue Tony is that when you create new music folders in
the future the same problem will probably persist.
When you sent the screenshot of the access rights on Qmultimedia it
showed both "everyone" and "administrators" as valid groups. That is
illogical as all of the users within the group administrators is by
definition a member of the everyone group. Normally you might have both
but administrators with "read/write" and everyone with just "read"
access.
You should NOT change these settings without first finding out what
caused the change and why the user "squeezeboxserver" can no longer read
a file that has "administrators" as its group.

Ok.

You said before that the owner and group were identical. They aren't!

The working file has group set at "everyone" but non working file has
group set at "administrators"

In your non working example - Steve Miller - navigate to the *folder*
that contains the files

Put a tick in the box where indicated and then change the group to be
"everyone" and click OK

39074

Then rescan - is that album then visible?

Those screenshots look correct.

Now fire up WinSCP and navigate to a file that you know LMS CAN'T see.

Right click and do Properties. What user and group names do you see?
Post a screenshot.

Move back up the tree one step at a time towards Qmultimedia and repeat
looking at Properties at folder level.
Post screenshot of each each level.

Yes if switched on then ssh is available and I think it will be here as
WinSCP uses it and Tony has said he has used that.
The default super user on a QNAP is "admin" which is a member of the
group "administrators" - so "admin.administrators" is the same as
"root.root" (UID 0, GID 0).
>From memory when I did run LMS on a QNAP the user was "squeezeboxserver"
but a member of "administrators"
In Samba you created a user "jim" and made that a member of
"administrators" then everything you wrote from Windows got the correct
GID for LMS to see.
I do remember an upgrade breaking something where I had to chmod on a
lot of files but I don't remember the specifics.
Here I am wondering whether Tony has repsonded to the QNAP firmware nag
about default admin user and switched it off - which was the
recommendation - and perhaps this has caused a change to the group
structure?

Tony said that the user / group and permissions on a non working folder
are identical to a working folder when looked at with WinSCP. If that
is really correct from top level down then LMS should be able to see
them but apparently it can’t.

Although Tony doesn’t say so explicitly the QNAP must be fairly old -
top level being called Qmultimedia not Multimedia as it is on latest
models - but in order to run LMS must be using digimaster’s package and
must be fairly powerful. One thing that has changed in recent firmware
is a nag that tells you when you are using the default admin account and
suggests you change it. Tony - did you follow that advice?

I don’t use LMS directly on my QNAP and haven’t done for years largely
for this sort of reason. I can’t run digimaster’s package as my QNAP
isn’t powerful enough but it is perfectly good as a file store. Hence I
run LMS on another machine and point it at the files on the NAS. I also
have a Pi4 running pCP as a dev server pointed at the QNAP so I would
totally endorse the suggestion that Jim makes in this regard.

However as you say it was working ok so something has changed and it
probably is really simple. It may be a good idea to seek advice in
digimaster’s QNAP thread. My money is still on a subtle change on the
QNAP in relation to user or group rights and how the files have been
written from Windows to the QNAP.

Nevertheless It is possible that the files themselves have been created
differently and aren’t valid in Linux terms but are to Windows.

To upload a couple put them in a Zip file.

Just to recap.
1. If you run a clear and rescan you get exactly the same results?
2. If you place a non working file into a working folder can LMS see and
play the file?
3. What is your folder path structure - Qmultimedia/Music/Artist/Album -
or are there sub folders between Music and Artist?

I’m using a phone so can’t open attached images until I’m on a PC.

By default QNAP has either a Qmultimedia or a Multimedia top level
folder and within that Music, Videos, Pictures.

Normally you would point at LMS at Music only. Are all your files inside
there or have you created a second store alongside eg Music2 ?

As Paul says check the scanner log first but it’s most likely that LMS
can’t see the new files.
Use WinSCP to compare owner, group and access permission (774 etc)
between a file you know LMS can see and one it can’t.
My money would be on the group being different.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS on a different network than clients

2022-10-18 Thread d6jg

What you are asking is essentially the same as connecting a client to a
remote server over the internet.

Pippin talks about doing that with iPeng here
-http://penguinlovesmusic.de/ipeng-the-iphone-skin-for-squeezecenter/how-to-use-the-ipeng-application/known-issues/coolios-guide-to-remote-playback/

Over the internet this is NOT advised as your LMS becomes open to
hackers and instead you are advised to use a VPN. However the principle
for what you want to do is as he states - TCP ports 9000 and 3483 and
UDP ports 3483 need to be opened from your client subnet to your server
subnet. It is highly unlikely that you will be able to do this using a
domestic router.

Please explain the components in use and why you are running on two
subnets as described.

No way of doing this except by physically amalgamating the files but you
know that. You can however *exclude* from a random mix by tagging with
an "exclude" genre and then setting random mix to ignore files tagged
that way.

I have to say I never intentionally use shuffle and I wish I could turn
off the existence of the icon so that I don't accidentally enable it.

So to clarify Spotify web app on a PC works but not on daughter's
phones?
If that is correct then it suggests that devices using WiFi can't see
the LMS on Docker.
Perhaps look at the WiFi part of your network settings on router. There
may be what is called "client isolation" switched on which blocks
anything on WiFi from any access to the rest of your network or perhaps
WiFi is not on the same subnet.

That’s from New Music but it was the same if I searched for Tin
Machine.

I’m sure I’ve got other examples where I have both Qobuz and local
albums identical named which haven’t merged.

One thing I should say though is that I had Qobuz version first and when
I ripped CD - with dbPoweramp - I set Album Artist as Tin Machine; David
Bowie which may (probably does) have something to do with it.

A search for David Bowie showed the Tin Machine album as expected but it
was also the merged version.

I have renamed the CD as Tin Machine (CD) which of course now shows 2
separate albums so there is an easy workaround.

LMS displays the art from its artwork cache which is the same cover that
it uses for its album list.
At play time it reads the database to find the image within the cache
store. Have a look at the database.
As I said earlier my understanding remains that the scanner uses the
first piece of embedded artwork it finds but in the event there is none
then drops to folder.jpg or cover.jpg - I don’t know the precedence of
the latter.
If you look at More / Local Artwork you’ll see the cached versions
stored for display use.
Part of the scan process is the creation of the artwork cache

Embedded cover art in files is an MP3 thing in the main. If you don’t
use your music in anything other than LMS there is no reason to bloat
your files with cover art - just use a single decent folder.jpg or
cover.jpg in the album folder. LMS creates various sized versions in any
case for where it needs them and stores them in the cache for easy quick
retrieval.
Most decent rippers can be configured to do this.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Maximum file size for cover art?

2022-03-03 Thread d6jg

I may be wrong but I’m pretty sure that LMS uses cover art in the
following order.
First music file in a folder with embedded art then folder.jpg,
cover.jpg etc
If your embedded file was 300x300 it would use that rather than the
800x800 image which is then arguably a bit redundant.
As I don’t use my Flacs with anything other than LMS I try not to embed
images at all but use 800x800 folder.jpg

The problem, I think, is that in the rock/pop sphere we would like to
see something like

The Beatles, Yellow Submarine (Lennon, McCartney)

whereas the classical bods consider Composer to be first and foremost

Vivaldi, Concerto no. 1 in E, RV 269 “La primavera”: I. Allegro, Nigel

you have selected it via Albums or Playlist etc rather than via Qobuz

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] How to list all Albums and Artists in LMS library

2022-02-23 Thread d6jg

@johnd

What the above means is you just need to find an image for The Family -
name it artist.jpg and put it in your Artist folder for The Family and
do a rescan and it should be picked up.
This is a one off correction measure and you should not need to set a
folder inside the settings for MAI which would download everything.
This assumes that
1) you use the normal Artist/Album folder structure
2) your The Family tracks are local and not from an Online source
Good luck. Let us know the results

If you use a VPN then what Tidal will see is the IP of the VPN server
you connect to.
If you were to connect to a VPN server in USA for example then Tidal
would see a USA registered IP - that’s the whole point of this sort of
VPN

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Install Logitech Media Centre on Synology NAS

2022-02-16 Thread d6jg

@michael
Given the number of current threads concerning Synology NAS would it be
an idea to post a “sticky” post outlining the current situation and user
options - Pi, Docker etc?
PS Apart from you is there anyone else who can sticky a post?

Yes. Tidal will see the external IP from your ISP

The generally accepted recommendation for a device running LMS is to
have it wired with a static or reserved IP. It is technically possible
to run it on WiFi but perhaps not with a network mount such as this.
Are you able to connect by Ethernet with a static or reserved IP and
test?

If you have told us before then apologies but is the Pi wired and does
it have a static or reserved IP?

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] NAS Disk Mount error......media folders empty

2022-02-16 Thread d6jg

This doesn't make sense.
I have a number of pCP/LMS installs that connect to a NAS albeit a QNAP
- they all work perfectly and the mount is always there as long as the
NAS is up when the pCP boots.
Could it be that you have set your NAS to sleep if not required - I
don't know whether that is possible with Synology or not.
